Seal Cove Auto Museum — Mount Desert Island, Maine Full-Time or Part-Time, Year-Round

About Us

Seal Cove Auto Museum is a history museum that uses our collection of brass-era automobiles to teach invention, innovation, and social change in turn-of-the-century New England. We’re a small, close-knit nonprofit team (and we mean small) that believes a great guest experience, a little fun, and a lot of flexibility are what make this place special. We’re looking for someone ready to put down roots and grow with us for years to come.

What We’re Looking For

We need a versatile, enthusiastic team member who wants year-round, consistent work — that matters more to us than whether it’s full- or part-time. No specific prior experience is required: we will train you on everything from our donor database to our exhibit printer. What we can’t train is curiosity, a great attitude, and a willingness to pitch in wherever the day takes you — because around here, everyone’s job changes daily, and the guest walking through the door always comes first.

What You’ll Do

  • Membership & Development: Help manage our donor database  — data entry, record clean-up, and running queries for mailings and appeals. Support our business sponsorship drive, annual appeal, and membership renewal campaigns, including list-building and mail merges.
  • Events: Take point on organizing and staffing our many events — Cars & Coffee (Saturdays, in-season), our big Speakeasy fundraiser (March), community events, school STEM demos, and more. Some evening and weekend work required, but we build in schedule flexibility to match.
  • Education & Outreach: introduce students to our programs, run a hands-on activity, and co-lead museum visit.
  • Creative & Exhibit Work: Help design and produce materials in Canva (or Adobe, if that’s your background) for signage, reader rails, and social media. Assist with researching, writing, printing, and mounting our biennial new exhibit (in-house, on our own large-format printer).
  • Visitor Experience: Be a warm, knowledgeable presence on the museum floor for guests — our #1 differentiator in guest reviews. Pivot to front-of-house coverage anytime it’s needed.
  • General Support: Jump in wherever needed — from event planning to light driving of our antique/demonstration vehicles (training provided) to helping keep the office and shop organized.

What You Bring

  • A genuine interest in people, history, and community — car expertise not required.
  • Comfort (or willingness to get comfortable) with computers and databases; Microsoft suite, Canva/Adobe familiarity a plus but trainable.
  • Flexibility to work some weekends/evenings for events, with reciprocal flexibility from us on your schedule.
  • Commitment to a multi-year, year-round role — we’re investing in you, and we’re hoping you’ll invest in us.

What We Offer

  • Medical Benefits (HSA)
  • Simple IRA retirement plan with 3% match
  • Two weeks paid time off (PTO) + paid holidays
  • Highly flexible scheduling built around real life (school pickups, other jobs, appointments)
  • A fun, low-stress, dog-friendly workplace with genuine camaraderie
  • Professional development opportunities
